LINE COOK JOB DESCRIPTION
Opened in January 2024, Root Down Market is a restaurant and farm store located in New Sharon, ME. Serving breakfast, lunch, Friday dinner and Sunday brunch, our menu features farm-to-table ingredients including eggs, meat and produce. Our in-house bakery produces baked goods such as biscuits, muffins and more with Maine-grown grains. Additionally, our market offers a curated selection of Maine products, ready-to eat-items and Maine-roasted coffee.

Our market and cafe is open very early in the morning and we need team members who can consistently and reliably be on time to work.
Responsibilities:
Stock, set up, and organize all kitchen stations for service.
Execute all food preparation tasks, including cleaning, prepping ingredients, and cooking items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch menus.
Accurately read, prepare & expedite orders.
Receive and efficiently organize food deliveries from producers and suppliers.
Maintain a consistently high standard of food quality and presentation.
Ensure all kitchen operation procedures and hygiene standards meet food safety regulations.
Collaborate closely with the front-of-house team to ensure quick and accurate order fulfillment.
Possess a strong knowledge of the current menu and assist in the development and refinement of our local food-focused offerings.
Support front-of-house staff to help provide an excellent guest experience.
Thoroughly wash and clean all kitchen and cooking equipment before, during, and after service.
Perform deep cleaning of designated equipment, including fryers, the hood, and floors.
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum one year of restaurant cooking experience (or completion of a vocational culinary arts program).
Exceptional time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task and work as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment.
Strong organization and active listening skills.
The ability to accept feedback and work collaboratively with owners and staff.
The ability to work on your feet for most of the day & to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Excellent customer service skills.
Professionalism in demeanor & dress as befitting an open kitchen.
Experience or interest in developing menu items and specials is a plus.
Wage: $19/hour plus tip share
Schedule: 24 hrs/week
Monday clean & prep 9am to 5pm
Tuesday prep 9am to 5pm
Friday line cook 1pm to 9pm
Additional shifts may be available based on season and employee availability.
